Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) impacts both job seekers and employers. Enacted in August 1999, the WIA provides the framework for an effective workforce preparation and employment system.
The most important aspect of the Act is the focus on meeting the needs of businesses for skilled workers and the training, education, and employment needs of individuals. Key components of the Act enable customers to easily access the information and services they need through ''One-Stop'' Employment Centers. The One-Stop Centers provide access to employment services at a single location.
